that vision thang - SNOW DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Feb. 22nd, 2008 07:59 am SNOW DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a morning. I went to bed at 9:30 last night, and I am still tired, even as I sit drinking my coffee. That stubborn fatigue I had thought was better with new RA/fibro meds is back and just as bad as before. I practically fell asleep at my computer last night trying to write some. I have two novellas I need to finish and send off to the publisher, and I just can't seem to get it done. I'm hoping today will provide more of a chance to write because---

IT'S A SNOW DAY!

I was up early checking school closings early on, and my school was open, along with the local school district, even though the Philadelphia parochial and other charter schools were already closing left and right. I actually showered, got the Flowers out to the car along with all the crap I brought home to grade in anticipation of a possible snow day (thanks to the help of Hubby, who also very sweetly cleaned off my car of snow for me), and got started on the way in when I got a text message from the principal letting me know school was closed. Having gone only four or so blocks, trudging along at fifteen miles an hour and sliding three times, I was happy to turn back. (And the principal also very nicely called me directly to let me know, since she knows how early I leave and that the closing hadn't been posted on KYW yet, as I pulled back up in front of the house.)

The Elder Flower has been waiting all year for enough snow to play in, and there will certainly be enough out there. The challenge now is keeping her calm until it warms up a little (before it turns to freezing rain) and the snow itself slows down a little. And to give me time to empty my camera so I can take more pictures of my cute little ones.

***And here are Little Flowers playing in the white stuff while Hubby shoveled.*****

Q AND U WEDDING UPDATE

Finally got pics of that Q and U wedding downloaded. Here's the Elder as a Q Bride, and my limited baking ability-produced (with Elder's decorating help) Wedding Cake.

YOUNGER FLOWER PICTURES

And in finally emptying my camera, I found the cutest pictures of Younger. Elder still goes to dance class; Younger gave the class a couple of shots before we just kept her home, as she wouldn't dance or leave my side. But every Monday, as Elder gets dressed for class, Younger insists on doing so as well. One week it started a whole hour of dress-up for her, and this is how darn cute she was.

ELDER'S SCHOOL SEARCH

School search for the Elder is still underway. Living in the city of Philadelphia itself makes educating your children a challenge. Although I was educated in the public school system, and am/have always been a huge advocate of public education, the state of our schools is atrocious and I will not gamble my incredibly intelligent child's future on the thin chance that the schools will be revived anytime soon. I have no intention of letting her attend any public school other than Masterman or Central (my and Hubby's alma mater.)  I ended up teaching in charters and liking it; but I also know the pitfalls and problems of charter schools as well, first hand. So I am uncomfortable about letting her attend a charter school that I don't know very well, that isn't older with a good reputation.

She had a half-day visit to our local Friends school Thursday, which she was very nervous about but seems to have gone well. Now we are waiting to here is she actually gets in, so we can begin plotting the five or six years of tuition for them both.....
